Your Bow: Whether it’s a compound, recurve, or longbow, ensure it is in good working order.
Arrows (at least 6-8): In 3D archery, you will occasionally miss the foam and hit a tree or a rock. Bring more arrows than you think you’ll need so a single lost arrow doesn't end your day.
Field Points: Ensure your arrows have practice tips (field points) that match the weight of your arrow setup. Broadheads (hunting tips) are strictly prohibited on 3D courses because they destroy the foam targets.
A Hip Quiver: A quiver that hangs from your belt is much easier to manage than a back quiver when you’re ducking under branches or navigating trails.
Arrow Puller: Some foam targets are "grippy," making arrows difficult to remove by hand. A small rubber arrow puller gives you the grip you need to slide them out easily.
Arrow Lube: Applying a little lubricant to the front of your arrow shaft before you shoot makes it slide out of the foam targets with much less effort.
Binoculars: Even if you have great eyesight, 3D targets are often tucked into shadows. A basic pair of binoculars helps you see exactly where the "scoring rings" are located on the foam animal.
Sturdy Boots: You’ll be walking on uneven terrain, dirt, and potentially mud. Leave the sneakers at home and wear something with ankle support and good tread.
Bug Spray and Sunscreen: You’ll be spending a few hours in the elements.
Water and Snacks: A standard 3D course can take 2 to 3 hours to complete. Staying hydrated keeps your focus sharp for those long-distance shots.
Before you go, make peace with the fact that you might lose or break an arrow. It happens to the best archers in the world! If you go in expecting it, it won't ruin your mood when it happens.
